Abstract:

Cases of 104 patients with the spontaneous emphysema of the mediastinu were thoroughly analyzed. The desease is affects young men, aged less the 30 years, with asthma or chronic bronchitis. Differentiation should be made between iatrogenic esophageal or tracheobronchial rupture and spontaneous rupture of esophagus. Surgical treatment is indicated to less then 4% of patients with spontaneous mediastinal emphysema.
