Abstract:

Aim — to show an effectiveness of modified MAZE IV procedure in patients with valvular heart disease by using of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and «cut-sew» technique. Material and methods. The trial enrolled 72 patients with valvular heart defects and concomitant persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) for the period from 2012 to 2016. These patients underwent surgical correction of acquired heart defects and modified MAZE IV procedure including biatrial fragmentation via radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and «cut-sew» technique. Results. Modified MAZE IV procedure has high efficiency (preserved sinus rhythm after 1 year in 80% of patients). Thus, modified MAZE IV procedure should be considered simultaneously in all patients with persistent AF undergoing heart valve surgery.
