Abstract:

OBJECTIVE. T

O study the incidence, causes, prevention and treatment of complications after laser treatment.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

We reviewed the PubMed, eLibrary and CyberLeninka databases regarding cosmetological laser complications and found 1331 articles. Additionally, we used the keywords «cooling systems for laser devices», «dermatological laser complications» and «treatment of laser complications». Finally, 372 articles were analyzed, and 51 reports were included in this review.

RESULTS

The most common complications after various laser procedures were post-procedural dyspigmentation (17—43%), skin burns (up to 20%) and scars (up to 10%), secondary infectious complications (9%) and eye injury. Each complication was analyzed regarding its cause, prevention and treatment.

CONCLUSION

Selection of optimal therapeutic parameters of laser equipment and additional cooling reduce the risks of complications, but do not completely prevent these events. Therefore, research of mechanisms of complications, methods of their prevention and correction is very important.
