OBJECTIVE

To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of different anticoagulation regimens for deep vein thrombosis in real clinical practice.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

We retrospectively analyzed the prospectively collected data on 462 patients with deep vein thrombosis. Patients in the main group received rivaroxaban, in the control group — warfarin.

RESULTS

The main group included 340 patients (179 men and 161 women aged 26-101 years (mean 61.5±15.6 years), the control group — 122 patients (60 men and 62 women aged 20—93 years (mean 62.0±16.8)). Recurrent venous thromboembolism under anticoagulation occurred in 6 (1.3%; 95% CI 0.6—2.8%) cases (1 (0.3%; 95% CI 0.1—1.7%) and 5 (4.1%; 95% CI 1.8—9.2%) cases, respectively, p=0.006). Bleeding occurred in 49 (10.6%; 95% CI 8.1—13.7%) patients (34 (10.0%; 95% CI 7.2—13.6%) and 15 (12.3%; 95% CI, 7.6—19.3%) patients, respectively, p=0.495). There were 2 (1.6%; 95% CI 0.5—5.8%) major bleeding events under warfarin therapy and no similar events in the main group. The Kaplan-Meier freedom from recurrent thrombosis and major bleeding was significantly in the main group.

CONCLUSION

Rivaroxaban for the treatment of deep vein thrombosis has made anticoagulation not only effective, but also safe regarding the risk of major bleeding.
