OBJECTIVE

To analyze the patterns of great saphenous vein (GSV) incomptenence considering anatomical features of GSV tributaries in patients with varicose veins of lower extremities.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

A two-center study included patients with varicose veins of lower extremities who underwent minimally invasive interventions. We retrospectively analyzed the anatomical variants of lower limb veins considering preoperative ultrasound data of 6711 lower extremities.

RESULTS

Non-standard types of GSV incomptenence and reflux through the main tributaries were established in 2848 (42.4%) cases. We found 12 variants with incidence of 0.03-7%.

CONCLUSION

There are 12 main variants of GSV incomptenence and reflux through the main tributaries in patients with varicose veins of lower extremities. Awareness of these variants will be valuable to choose the method and time of treatment of patients with varicose veins of lower extremities.
