OBJECTIVE

To assess the practical application of minimally invasive transpapillary interventions in emergency abdominal surgery.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The study analyzed the outcomes of endoscopic treatment in patients with choledocholithiasis and obstructive jaundice caused by periampullary tumors. A total of 2.305 patients with common bile duct stones and periampullary malignancies were examined over a six-year period. Among them, 1.690 transpapillary interventions were performed for choledocholithiasis, and 615 endoscopic procedures were conducted in patients with periampullary malignant neoplasms.

RESULTS

Complications following endoscopic procedures were observed in 7.5% of patients with choledocholithiasis and 11.7% of patients with periampullary malignancies. In emergency cases, transpapillary endoscopic interventions were utilized to manage purulent cholangitis and obstructive jaundice.

CONCLUSION

Endoscopic transpapillary interventions for benign and malignant biliary obstructions should be performed in specialized centers equipped with advanced radiographic endoscopic equipment and staffed by qualified specialists to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
