Abstract:

Therapeutic hypothermia is used for neuroprotection in newborns with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. However, optimal course of therapeutic hypothermia and its safety are still important issues. We have described servo-controlled therapeutic hypothermia in 12 patients between 2018 and 2020. General therapeutic hypothermia was safe and had no significant complications. Servo-controlled hypothermia stabilizes temperature range and reduces the workload on medical staff. Routine sedation during hypothermia is controversial and has no evidence base. Registration of amplitude-integrated electroencephalography will make it possible to objectify the diagnosis of acute cerebral failure and seizures, that may be of great clinical and legal significance.
