The manuscript is devoted to the modern principles of inhalation sedation in critically ill children requiring mechanical ventilation. Particular attention is paid to applied aspects of inhalation sedation and clinical effects of inhalation anesthetics. The authors emphasized effectiveness and safety of inhalation sedation in children with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, as well as contradictory data on safety of inhalation sedation in case of unstable hemodynamics and central nervous system damage. Side effects of long-term inhalation sedation and possible clinical problems are also analyzed.
