In the presented literature review, modern studies of some non-pharmacological methods of pain therapy for migraine and tension headache, including neurostimulation with direct and alternating electric current and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), are considered. Nonpharmacological treatment of tension headache (GBN) and migraine is an urgent direction, along with non-analgesic drugs, since the prevalence of these types of primary headaches in the population is, according to various data, 40—65% and 11—22%, respectively. The article analyzes the effects of biological effects of TMS, as well as neural, immune, mediator and macro effects of TMS. The main contraindications and side effects of TMS are considered. Correlates of the effectiveness of TMS and electrostimulation are pain syndrome parameters, quality of life assessments, electrophysiological indicators, functional neuroimaging methods, clinical data and effects on mental and cognitive functions. The review presents the current state of research on different modes and duration of TMS, as well as localization of exposure in GBN and migraine. Experimental studies on animals make an additional contribution to understanding the mechanisms of TMC influence. The successful use of non-pharmacological treatment of TMS in patients with pain syndrome with tension headaches and migraines will improve the efficiency and quality of life of this category of patients.
