OBJECTIVE

The follow-up study of the developmental features of children suffering from breath-holding spells.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

Seventy-two primary school age children suffering from the breath-holding spells were examined. Somatic, neurological and autonomic status has been followed-up and children developmental features have been analyzed. The Achenbach System of Empirically Based Assessment (ASEBA) for children of 6—18 years old, Zakharov and Lavrentieva-Titarenko anxiety tests were used in the work in addition to clinical research methods.

RESULTS

According to the data obtained, 47.2% of children with a history of breath-holding spells suffer from conditions such as somatoform dysfunction of the gastrointestinal tract, tension headache, vegetative and vascular dystonia, dissomnia, emotional lability syndrome.

CONCLUSION

The presence of breath-holding spells in children can be considered as a predictor of the autonomic dysfunction development, sleep disorders and anxiety disorders in future.
