Abstract:

Back pain is one of the leading complaints of employable and elderly people appealing to neurologist. Spontaneous regression of pain syndrome within 6 weeks is observed in 50% of patients. Other cases require active medical treatment. Despite available painkillers and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, it is not always possible to ensure adequate pain relief. Facet joint is one of the most common sources of chronic back pain. Radiofrequency denervation of facet joints is the safest and the most effective treatment option. This review is devoted to current data on efficacy and safety of radiofrequency denervation in patients with back pain following facet joint damage, as well as changes in the patient’s quality of life.
