OBJECTIVE
Analysis and comparison of the modern scales and questionnaires for the diagnosis of tension-type headache (TTH).
MATERIAL AND METHODS
The first stage was searching for the scales and questionnaires aimed at diagnosis of headache and, in particular, TTH; searching for the scales and questionnaires for assessing the quality of life, efficacy and safety of therapy in patients with headache. The 2nd stage was analytical (searching for the manuscripts reflecting their validity). An analysis included ELibrary, PubMed, Web of Science, Springer, Google Scholar, Clinical key databases for the last 10 years.
RESULTS
A total of 55 publications were included in this review. There were scales and questionnaires used for the diagnosis of headache, including TTH, and assessment of quality of life in patients with headache. We tried to structure these scales and questionnaires in the form of comparative tables for convenient analysis and subsequent application of the analyzed scales and questionnaires in real clinical practice. Thus, the scales and questionnaires for headache assessment were divided into subgroups: diagnosis (non-specific assessment) of pain; diagnosis of headache (specific assessment); additional assessment of the muscle component in TTH. Scales and questionnaires for diagnosis of the quality of life in patients with headache were divided into two subgroups: assessment of the quality of life in patients with headache, assessment of the effectiveness and safety of therapy for headache.
CONCLUSION
There are various scales and questionnaires for the diagnosis of TTH. The problem of choice is far from being resolved. It is required to develop an improved algorithm for their outpatient application.
