OBJECTIVE

To analyze the frequency and effectiveness of caesarean section in obstetric hospitals of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA) of Russia.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

An analysis of caesarean section deliveries in 2021 using the Robson classification based on departmental statistics forms and reports of obstetric hospitals of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia located in different federal districts of the Russian Federation was performed. To determine the effectiveness of caesarean section, such indicators as caesarean section rate as a percentage of the total number of deliveries, perinatal mortality and caesarean section effectiveness coefficient were used.

RESULTS

The cesarean section rate in obstetric hospitals varies significantly, and the reasons for high cesarean section rates are similar. High caesarean section frequency does not always lead to a decrease in perinatal mortality in the medical institution, which allows us to state the insufficient effectiveness of caesarean section to reduce perinatal morbidity and mortality in such obstetric hospitals.

CONCLUSION

Increasing the effectiveness of caesarean section is possible under the condition of regular monitoring and analysis of the use of the Robson classification to identify and eliminate violations of the approved procedure for the provision of medical care in the field of «obstetrics and gynecology» and compliance with current clinical recommendations.
