Objective: to evaluate the efficiency of sacrospinous fixation for the treatment of patients with genital prolapse. Subject and methods. Thirty-seven patients with Stages II-IVC genital prolapse (in accordance with the pelvic organ prolapse quantification system) were operated on at the Moscow Regional Research Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology and in the Moskvorechye Clinic in November 2010 to March 2012. All the patients underwent sacrospinous fixation in combination with anterior and/or posterior colporrhaphy with or without synthetic prostheses, with and without hysterectomy. Preoperatively, all the patients were offered special questionnaires assessing the symptoms of bladder and rectal dysfunctions and genital prolapse. Results: Sacrospinous fixation was found to be a safe and nontraumatic surgical technique to correct genital prolapse, including in late reproductive-aged women who wished to preserve menstrual and reproductive functions. Conclusion. A combination of anterior colporrhaphy using a mesh prosthesis and sacrospinous fixation in Stages II-III prolapse is a sufficiently effective method to restore the anatomy of pelvic organs and to achieve a considerable improvement in their function.
