Abstract:

The review contains current and historical information on the etiology and pathogenesis of female genital prolapse. It gives data on the genetic and immunological causes of internal genital descent and prolapse in pre- and postmenopausal women and presents current classifications. There is a particular difficulty in choosing management tactics and in defining a rational approach to surgical treatment.
