Abstract:

The results of an investigation of the cytokines IL-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, γ-INF, TNF-α, and FasL were analyzed in patients with hemorrhagic syndrome-complicated uterine myoma undergoing selective uterine artery embolization (a study group, n=48) or abdominal supracervical hysterectomy (a comparison group, n=65). A control group consisted of 30 apparently healthy women. Postoperative examinations revealed significant increases in the serum concentration of proinflammatory cytokines and the apoptotic marker FasL. There is evidence that uterine artery embolization has a mediated effect on individual components of the immune system in patients with uterine myoma, which suggests that this procedure has certain advantages over hysterectomy for hemorrhage.
