The objective of the present work was to study the character of mineralization of the hard tissues of the facial skeleton, under normal and pathological conditions and in the course of regeneration with the use of combined scattering spectroscopy. The spectroscopic examination of histological preparations of the teeth and bone regenerates prepared by the grinding method was performed using a Nicolet Almega XR spectrometer. It was shown that even the early manifestations of dental caries (grade 1) are associated with deep demineralization of dentin down to the tooth’s pulp. On the contrary, investigations into mineralization of bone regenerates failed to provide convincing evidence of the involvement of the calcium-containing material in mineralization of the newly-formed bone tissue.
