This paper reports the results of the comprehensive treatment of generalized periodontitis in the patients presenting with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The clinical study of periodontal tissue was designed to evaluate the condition of the gums, the nature of occlusion, the presence of orthopedic structures and abnormal tooth mobility, the presence and depth of periodontal pockets. Orthopedic treatment of 35 patients with dentition defects and type 2 diabetes was provided based at the Orthopedic Dentistry Clinic. The results obtained suggest a significant improvement of periodontal parameters within 3 months after the combined treatment; in a later periods (6-12 months after treatment) these parameters showed a tendency toward further stabilization in contrast to the patients of control group in whom they deteriorated.
