The research of the male dental status of power training athletes practicing alone and with a personal trainer was studied.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
The data of 45 men aged 25-44 years were analyzed. They were divided into three groups. The first group (n=15) included men who practiced power training unprofessionally under the guidance of a trainer, the second group (n=15) included non-professionals who did power training on their own, the third or control one (n = 15) included men who did not exercise. The examination involved interviewing and determining the dental status: caries intensity (DFMT index), oral hygiene status (Green-Vermillion index, OHI-S), complex periodontal index KPI (P.A. Leus, 1988), PMA (modified Parma, 1960), detection of pathological abrasion and abfractive dental defects. The Yasinovsky test was used to assess the state of nonspecific immunity of the subjects.
RESULTS
In group 2, the indicator of “caries” according to the DFMT index was 1.5 times higher than in the first group and in the control group (p<0.05). OHI-S index in the first and second groups did not differ and corresponded to the average values. The values of the complex periodontal and PMA index in the second group did not differ from the control group, but were higher than in the first group. The number of leukocytes in the oral fluid according to the Yasinovsky test in the first group was equal in the first and control groups but the same indicator in the first group was higher than in the second one (p<0.01).
CONCLUSIONS
: The obtained results allowed us to draw conclusions about the influence of training approaches on the oral cavity condition. The changes revealed in men who trained without gradual adaptation to strength training and without control of the exercise technique from the trainer indicate a negative impact of irrational loads on the dental status.
