Clinical and genetic analysis of chronic bacterial rhinosinusitis

OBJECTIVE

Systematic review of the studies’ results on the assessment of the genetic factors’ role in the pathogenesis of CRS.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

For the analysis it was used the publications (articles and corresponding abstracts) presented in the PubMed, EMBASE, MedLine databases and in the Cochrane Library for the period 2007—2017. The search was carried out using the following keywords: cytokines, interleukins, genetic polymorphism, chronic bacterial rhinosinusitis, and association analysis.

RESULTS AND CONCLUSION

The data obtained indicate the importance of the genes of anti-inflammatory cytokines’ involvement in the chronicity of the inflammatory process in bacterial sinusitis. An association between CRS and a variation in the p73 (TP73) epithelial tumor protein gene was found. The relationship between mutations in the transmembrane conductance regulator gene in cystic fibrosis CFTR and the occurrence of CRS in most patients has been established. TNF (–238AA [rs361525] and –308GA [rs1800629]) is also associated with the development of CRS. AOAN rs4504543 gene polymorphism was observed only in the group of patients with CRS without nasal polyp. Thus, CRS is a heterogeneous disease that requires further study.
