Mucoviscidosis (MV) is a systemic hereditary condition characterized by the severely disturbed function of the gastrointestinal tract and the respiratory organs. Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), sometimes in the form of polypous purulent CRS, is a typical clinical manifestation of mucoviscidosis that serves as a source of descending infection of the entire respiratory system. Nevertheless, many otorhinolaryngologists appear to be virtually unaware of the methods of diagnostics, conservative and surgical treatment of the children presenting with MV and concomitant rhinosinusitis. The article contains information on fundamentals of pathogenesis and clinical features of the lesions of paranasal sinuses (PNS) associated with mucoviscidosis in the children as well as the current data on the effectiveness of the modern methods of pharmacotherapy of MV. Their interpretation from the standpoint of evidence-based medicine is presented together with the indications for the surgical treatment of this condition and the recommendations on its possible volume. The authors analyze their 12 year experience of the work in the field of endoscopic surgery on paranasal sinuses for the treatment of mucoviscidosis.
