Morbidity rate is one of the main criteria that are considered when assessing the population health status. The purpose of studying the morbidity rate is to characterize the population’s state of health, plan the activities of health care organizations, develop preventive measures and assess the effectiveness of the measures taken.
OBJECTIVE
To conduct a detailed analysis and review trends of the morbidity rate of the Gomel region population for the period from 2014 to 2023.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
The study used annual reports on the morbidity rate of adult population (Form 1 — Morbidity (Ministry of Health), «Report on the Number of Diseases Registered in Patients Aged 18 Years and Older Living in the Service Area of a Health Care Organization Providing Medical Care») and child population (Form 1 — Children (Ministry of Health) «Report on Medical Care for Children») in the Gomel region from 2014 to 2023. Intensive and extensive indicators of incidence and prevalence were analyzed. The breakdown of incidence and prevalence was calculated according to the main nosological classes of ICD-10.
RESULTS
During the analyzed period, a statistically significant increase in both incidence and prevalence rates was reported in the population of the Gomel region. Of the main nosological classes of ICD-10, the incidence rate included mainly respiratory diseases, injuries, poisoning, and other consequences of exposure to external causes, diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue, diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue, as well as infectious and parasitic diseases. Diseases of the respiratory system, diseases of the circulatory system, diseases of the eye and adnexa, diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue, diseases of the endocrine system, eating disorders, and metabolic disorders account for the majority of the prevalence rate. The maximum morbidity rate in the Gomel region was recorded in 2021, primarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
CONCLUSION
The obtained data on the population morbidity rate are necessary for choosing the main directions in the prevention of the most significant diseases.
