Follow-up care is an efficient secondary and tertiary prevention strategy aimed at reducing the frequency of disease exacerbations, progression, and premature death.
OBJECTIVE
To comprehensively analyze morbidity among the working-age and above working-age population under follow-up care.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
This study utilized Federal Statistical Observation Form No. 12, “Information on morbidity in patients residing in the catchment area of the medical institution” (FSOF 12), and the Russian Statistical Agency data on the working-age and above working-age population in 2018—2023 for 85 entities of the Russian Federation. The results were statistically processed using Statistica for Windows 10.0 and R-studio software.
RESULTS
By the end of 2023, 8.525.2 cases of diseases per 10.000 people of working age and 10.766.6 cases of diseases per 10.000 people over working age were under follow-up care in the Russian Federation. The rate of increase of cases included in the follow-up care were positive in all federal districts of the Russian Federation. In 2023, 1.328.3 cases of diseases per 10.000 working-age people were removed from follow-up care across the country, by 5.2% more than in 2018. The number of cases removed from follow-up care among people over working age has also increased; in 2023, 1.195.2 cases were removed, 32.2% more than in 2018.
CONCLUSION
A steady growth in the number of cases under follow-up care in the Russian Federation in 2018—2023 indicates the high relevance of this strategy, warranting further research to develop new organizational and methodological approaches for follow-up care and assessing their efficacy, especially for the working-age population.
