OBJECTIVE

To study the impact of the infrastructure parameters of the residence area on the stress level in students.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The study, performed in 2023, included 626 students of Technological Institute of Food Industry of the Kemerovo State University. The assessment of infrastructure in the residence area was done using the NEWS (Neighborhood Environmental Walkability Scale) questionnaire. The stress level was evaluated by the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) questionnaire. An ordinal regression analysis with the calculation of odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) was applied in the analysis of associations.

RESULTS

The high level of car safety had the highest impact on the decrease of stress level in students (OR=0.54; 95% CI 0.34—0.87). The analysis performed with division into socio-demographic groups has shown that the medium level of population density (OR=2.60; 95% CI 1.26—5.35) and the high level of security related to criminality (OR=0.36; 95% CI 0.16—0/84), had the greatest influence on stress level in first-year students.

CONCLUSION

The study results show that the stress level in students is associated with the infrastructure parameters of the residence area, which can be used for planning a comfortable and less stressful urban environment.
