Abstract:

One of the prerequisites of the accessibility of smoking cessation care is staffing. The article addresses the issues related to the possibility of engaging practical nurses in smoking cessation care and analyzes foreign experience on this issue. Based on the analysis of the regulatory and legal acts, professional and educational standards, and staffing levels in the healthcare system, it is shown that nurses can play a distinct role in identifying smokers, motivating them to quit, and providing the necessary assistance regardless of the reason for referral, as well as referring them to get specialized care as indicated.
