Medical prevention remains one of the priority orientations for the provision of medical care to citizens in the frame of the primary care setting. This area combines several processes — from preventive medical examination and medical check-up, aimed at identifying not only chronic non-communicable diseases (CNCDs), but also their risk factors, to the follow-up medical care of different patients’ groups, including those with high cardiovascular risk. Medical prevention structures such as medical prevention offices and departments, health centers play key role in the implementation of these processes.
OBJECTIVE
To assess the resources of medical prevention structures, including medical prevention departments, offices and health centers, and to develop proposals for change of regulatory control in the activities of these structures.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
Analysis of the organization of these structures at year-end 2023 was conducted. The obtained results show that coverage by doctors in offices and departments of medical prevention is 70% or more in 60 regions, and in health centers — in 47 regions. Similar analysis was carried out in 2022, in which the values of the described indicators were lower.
RESULTS
The survey conducted in 2023 has shown that more than 70% of doctors of medical prevention offices and departments in 22 regions had not undergone training on CNCDs prevention and healthy lifestyle development in 5 years (according to the results of the survey in 2022 — in 31 regions), doctors of health centers — in 18 regions (according to the results of the survey in 2022 — in 32 regions).
CONCLUSION
Different indicators of the participation of medical prevention structures in the implementation of profound preventive counseling are noteworthy. The results show different ranges of citizens’ coverage by this activity, including in the context of individual structures of medical prevention, which indicates their unequal involvement in the noted processes. Proposals for the development of preventive care were formed based on the results of the analysis.
