BACKGROUND
Study of dental morbidity is given much attention in modern Russian dentistry, in particular in the Tyumen region. However, not enough scientific works are devoted to the study of rural residents of the south of the Tyumen region.
THE AIM OF THE STUDY
Was to evaluate the indicators of dental morbidity in the adult population living in the rural area of Yurginsky district of Tyumen region.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
An epidemiological dental survey of 100 residents of Yurginsky district of Tyumen region in two key age groups according to WHO methodology was conducted (supplemented by assessment of the level of individual oral hygiene and determination of the papillary-marginal-alveolar index): working age (35—44 years) n=50 and elderly people (65 years and older) n=50. Various indices were analyzed: prevalence and intensity of dental caries (CPI), indices characterizing periodontal inflammatory processes (PMA and CPI), oral hygiene (IGR-U index), presence of non-carious lesions, bite anomalies and TMJ dysfunctions. The level of dental care in the study area was assessed.
RESULTS
The prevalence of dental caries in the middle age group (35—44 years old) is 96%, the value of the CPP index is 15.22±5.32. The prevalence of dental caries in the elderly age group (65 years old and older) is 100%, with the value of the CPP index being 22.98±9.13. The IGR-U index revealed a satisfactory level of hygiene in the age group of 65 years old and older (1.53±0.27), in people 35—44 years old — unsatisfactory (2.11±0.93). A high prevalence of inflammatory periodontal diseases in working-age adults was found, reaching 96%; in the elderly, the rate is 100%, with the presence of periodontal pockets and a higher number of sextants excluded from the evaluation due to missing teeth. The prevalence of signs of TMJ dysfunction in people 35—44 years of age is 44.0% and in the elderly 40.0%. There is a high need for prosthetics in the adult population. The evaluation of the USP indicator indicates an insufficient (14.98% — in middle-aged people, 16.75% — in the elderly) level of dental care provided to the adult population in Yurginsky Raion.
CONCLUSION
The analysis of the results has shown the necessity of revealing the reasons causing the formation of the main pathological conditions of the oral cavity, as well as the creation of preventive measures for the development of diseases, based on the peculiarities of the district under consideration.
