Objective — to investigate the efficiency of screening elderly people with senile asthenia within the framework of prevention training programs (the TIME study). The investigation enrolled 336 patients (136 (40.5%) men and 200 (59.5%) women) with senile asthenia (preasthenia) who were examined and trained within the screening program. The mean age of the patients was 77.61±2.73 years. The patients were randomized by the envelope method into two groups. A study group (Group 1) (n=170) consisted of the persons referred to the Active Longevity School for training. A comparison group (Group 2) (n=166) underwent an in-depth consultation and were referred to a therapist and (or) a neurologist for a screening visit. Senile asthenia was detected at the screening stage from the results of a patient questionnaire survey and it was defined as age-related syndrome (ICD-10 R54). At the beginning of the study at the first visit (V1), and after 12 months of follow-up (V2), the cognitive status and levels of anxiety were assessed and a series of consecutive office blood pressure measurements were made. The investigation has established that the elderly patients with senile asthenia have a high comorbidity index that in conjunction with cognitive deficit and a negative anxiety and affective profile reduces life expectancy. The patients trained at the Active Longevity School had the best values for the cognitive status and levels of personal and reactive anxiety a year later.
