The impact of non-drug treatments on dynamic changes in the relative risk of adverse cardiovascular outcomes was evaluated in an organized population (435 workers of the railway shop of a metallurgic enterprise (339 men and 96 women; mean age 43 years (range 33-49 years). The study program involved filling out a questionnaire containing sociodemographic characteristics, anthropometric data, and information about bad habits and arterial hypertension (AH). Blood pressure was measured and total blood cholesterol levels and a cardiovascular risk were determined in all the study participants. After examined, all the patients were recommended to adhere to a healthy lifestyle and, if they had any risk factors, to modify the latter. The investigators implemented systematic preventive measures; an interim evaluation of results was carried out during annual prophylactic examinations. If recommendations on non-drug AH treatment were fully or partially complied with, the risk reduced in 27.2 and 17%, respectively. Incompliance could achieve no significant risk reduction. At the same time, in the incompliance group, the risk became higher in 48.4% of the patients. The partial compliance group showed a higher risk in 31.2% of cases. In the compliance group, the risk increased in 19.8% of the patients. The compliance group demonstrated the most significant relative risk reduction by the end of the study. The incompliance group exhibited an increase in the relative risk of cardiovascular diseases in the maximum percentage of patients.
