Locomotive crew mates (engine drivers and their assistants) were examined to estimate the spread of risk factors for cardiovascular diseases 5 years after going to onsite health school for 2 years. During the follow-up period, there was a significant reduction in smoking (by 19.2%), its history (by 1.8 years), alcohol abuse (by 45.8%), frequency of arterial hypertension (by 1.4-fold), and resting tachycardia (by 12.6%), and an increase in physical activity (by 1.5-fold). Incorporation of individual counseling into the prevention program could lower systolic blood pressure (BP) by 1.4 mm Hg) and diastolic BP (by 2.8 mm Hg), decline the number of smokers (by 5.7%) and smoked cigarettes in the workplace (by 5.1 cigarettes), and alcoholic beverage consumption (by 2.2%), and increase physical activity (by 13.6%), use of vegetables and fruits (by 26.1%), and sleep duration (by 10.2%). A long-term onsite preventive measure enables a significant reduction in cardiovascular risk factors to be achieved.
