Abstract:

Objective. To examine the bone metabolism in postmenopausal women, depending on obesity, leptin and adiponectin levels. Material and methods. The study involved 165 postmenopausal women. The 1st group included 83 women with abdominal obesity, the 2nd group consisted of 82 women without obesity. Bone metabolism, calcium-phosphorus metabolism, bone mineral density, adipokines, as a BMI in patients with obesity and without it were studied. Results. 91% of women with obesity had hyperleptinemia. There was a significant positive correlation between leptin and BMD of the spine and proximal femur, alkaline phosphatase, BMI and body fat and negative correlation between leptin and Ca2+ level in the blood. Conclusions. The fat mass has no independent effect on bone metabolism and its action mediated by adipokines production.
