Abstract:

The literature review concerning the methods and outcomes of selective reduction of multifetal pregnancies is presented. The own results of selective termination of pregnancies with dichorionic twins and trichorionic triplets in 20 cases were analyzed. 19 cases were made in the first trimester (12.6±0.70 weeks) by transabdominal potassium chloride injection, one case was performed in 20th gestational week by laser coagulation of umbilical cord. The genetic consultation and pregnancy management are discussed. Selective feticide was successfully performed in all patients. We had no fetal losses, premature deliveries or perinatal mortality. Mean gestation age at term of delivery was 39.0 (38.0—40.0) weeks, mean birth weight was 2920.7±633.22 g. Selective reduction in multifetal pregnancy is an effective and safe way of improving pregnancy outcomes with congenital diseases of one of the fetus.
