Abstract:

OBJECTIVE

To analyze the impact of physicians’ adherence to clinical guidelines on treatment outcomes in patients with solid tumors.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

Two independent researchers searched and selected reports for systematic review in two databases using secondary literature sources. Meta-analysis was performed using RevMan v.5.3 software. Mortality rate, 1- and 5-year survival were the main endpoints.

RESULTS

A systematic review included 15 studies and 239.350 patients. There were 6 studies devoted to breast cancer and 4 studies in gynecological oncology. All studies were retrospective. Meta-analysis of mortality (9 studies) and 5-year survival (9 studies) revealed significant benefits for patients treated in accordance with clinical guidelines. Analysis of 1-year survival (3 studies) did not demonstrate such results.

CONCLUSION

Physicians’ adherence to clinical guidelines reduces the mortality rate of patients with cancer.
