Clinical experimental study of the efficacy and safety of biorevitalization using a drug based on native hyaluronic acid modified by trehalose in patients with melasma

BACKGROUND

Biorevitalization and mesotherapy are methods widely used in aesthetic and regenerative medicine, nevertheless reports on their use in the melasma treatment are few in number.

OBJECTIVE

To evaluate the efficacy, safety and satisfaction with result after the course of biorevitalization procedures by a drug based on native hyaluronic acid modified by trehalose in patients with melasma.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The study involved 28 women with skin phototypes II-III and melasma (chloasma) diagnosis (ICD-10: L81.1). The study participants underwent a course of 3 procedures using biorevitalizing gel based on native hyaluronic acid and trehalose with an interval of 30±7 days.

RESULTS

Mean levels of melanin and hemoglobin estimated by the Antera 3D have decreased significantly, indicating improvement in connection with the performed treatment, after the completion of treatment course with a biorevitalizing gel based on native hyaluronic acid and trehalose. In addition, the severity of wrinkles and texture of skin have been significantly reduced compared to the baseline values according to the Antera 3D data. The treatment result was assessed as positive by 3 patients, 21 patients were satisfied with the result, 3 patients were moderately satisfied, 1 patient was not satisfied with the result. Thus, a revitalizing complex based on native hyaluronic acid and trehalose can be an effective method of melasma treatment.

CONCLUSION

The drug based on native hyaluronic acid modified by trehalose can be used with good clinical effect both in monotherapy and as one of the steps of comprehensive melasma therapy in combination with other treatment methods.
