Acne is the most common skin disease in dermatological practice with pronounced impact on life quality of patients, including due to postacne manifestation.
OBJECTIVE
To improve the effectiveness of therapy and to reduce postacne symptoms in patients with moderate and severe acne using isotretinoin and multicomponent gel for external application with boswellic acid and cepalin.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
The number of patients equal 32 (11 men and 21 women) aged from 18 to 45 years, mean age 21.5 (19.0—27.3), with moderate and severe acne course were under the observation. All patients received basic treatment by isotretinoin inside in standard dosage of 0.5—0.8 mg/kg and adjuvant therapy. The patients were divided into 2 groups: the 1st group included 17 subjects (they received externally multicomponent gel with boswellic acid and cepalin for external application for 6 months in addition to basic therapy since the second month); the 2nd group consisted of 15 patients, who received only basic therapy. Patients’ condition was assessed before treatment and then monthly using IGA, DIA, SCAR-S and APSEA scales.
RESULTS
The most pronounced clinical dynamics (improvement in the dermal process, reduction of the disease impact on the quality of life of patients) were observed in the 1st group, receiving comprehensive treatment with a gel with boswellic acid and cepalin for external use.
CONCLUSION
Supplementing the standard acne treatment regimen of moderate and severe acne with systemic isotretinoin by application of a multicomponent gel for external use with boswellic acid and cepalin enhances the effectiveness of such treatment in reducing inflammation severity and postacne phenomena with accompanying improvement in the psychoemotional status of patients.
