Abstract:

BACKGROUND

World statistics show increased sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among men who have sex with men (MSM).

OBJECTIVE

To assess the epidemiological role of MSM sexual behavior patterns in the transmission of STIs in the population.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The sexual behavior patterns and clinical and laboratory examination results of 174 MSM were studied.

RESULTS

It was found that the majority of MSM (66.1%) had bisexual contacts and that in the study group, 84 (48%) MSM practiced only casual relationships, 90 (52%) MSM had permanent partners and casual relationships, and only 14 (8%) MSM were in strictly monogamous relationships. Thus, 92% of MSM have casual partners.

CONCLUSION

Epidemiologically, the results of our study showed that MSM, who also practiced bisexual contacts, comprised the group that transmitted STIs from the risk group to the heterosexual community.
