Abstract:

The high prevalence of acne, a long and time-consuming process of therapy determines the relevance of systematizing the data of Russian and international clinical studies on the problem of this dermatosis. Systemic isotretinoin is the most effective drug for the treatment of acne, and its indications at the present stage have been significantly expanded due to new data on its safety profile. The article was analyzed and systematizes the data of scientific publications devoted to the main issues of practical use and dosage regimens of systemic isotretinoin in the treatment of acne. The side effects of the drug were described, including its effect on the skin and mucous membranes, liver function and lipid metabolism, the state of the gastrointestinal tract, bone and nervous system. Measures to prevent adverse events and teratogenic effects of the drug are considered. Recommendations were provided on the management of patients with acne when they develop undesirable effects during treatment with systemic isotretinoin.
