Abstract:

Zinc-deficient states are often detected in the general population and in patients with atopic dermatitis. Objective — the study was aimed at determining the characteristics of atopic dermatitis with reduced blood level of zinc and assessing the effectiveness of combination therapy using zinc sulphate preparations in the treatment of patients with this dermatosis. Material and methods. The study included 54 patients with atopic dermatitis and control group included 25 healthy subjects. Medical history, SCORAD index, blood level of zinc, and hydration level were assessed. The study found that decrease in zinc level was more pronounced in patients with atopic dermatosis compared to healthy volunteers. High efficacy of combination treatment including systemic administration of zinc sulphate was evidenced by rapid decrease in SCORAD index, remission in 50% of patients, and increase in moisture content in the skin.
