Patients suffering from gynoid lipodystrophy (GLD) are the largest group of patients who seek cosmetic care. Mesotherapy is widely used for correction of GLS. Due to lack of the studies on the effect of intradermal and/or subcutaneous injections of various pharmacological agents on the skin and subcutaneous fat (SCF) in GLD patients, the advisability of the use of mesotherapy in patients with this pathological condition is still an open issue. Objective. The study was aimed at assessing morphological and functional changes in the skin and SCF in females with GLD after administration of single-component or two-component mesotherapy. Material and methods. The study involved 72 female patients with stage II GLD in the thighs. We compared the effects of mesotherapy with pentoxifylline alone (single-component mesotherapy) and mesotherapy using pentoxifylline in combination with hyaluronic acid (HA), modified vitamin C, and L-carnitine (two-component mesotherapy), in the upper, middle and lower third of the anterior and posterior surfaces of thighs. We used Skinscanner DUB digital ultrasound imaging system with 22 MHz linear transducer to evaluate the morphological and functional condition of the skin and SCF before and after treatment. Results. Decrease in skin thickness in the region of the upper, middle, and lower third of the anterior and posterior surfaces of thighs was more pronounced after two-component mesotherapy compared to single-component mesotherapy by 67, 56, 53 and 27, 33 and 26 μm, respectively. Conclusion. Mesotherapy with pentoxifylline in combination with HA, modified vitamin C, and L-carnitine, is more effective compared to treatment with pentoxifylline alone.
