Introduction: Skin barrier disruption plays a significant role in pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis (AD). Benefits of inclusion of emollients in the topical therapy for patients with AD were proved in terms of pathogenesis. Objectives: To compare the clinical efficacy of Xerodiane plus and the conventional moisturizing agent (Unna's cream) in children with atopic dermatitis. Мaterial and Methods. The study included 31 children with AD. The children were divided into two groups. Patients in group 1 (18 children) used emollients Xerodian plus twice a day on the skin lesions of the face and limbs within complex therapy. Group 2 patients (13 children) received combined therapy with the inclusion of conventional moisturizing agents based on lanolin (Unna's cream) 3 times a day. Transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and pH of skin surface in the inflammation area were measured in all patients before treatment and 2 weeks after therapy. Results. During treatment patients of both groups had a significant (p<0.05) decrease in the SCORAD index, TEWL, and pH of the skin surface. The TEWL and pH values of the skin surface were significantly lower in children with atopic dermatitis who were cured with Xerodian plus (p=0.026, p=0.033, respectively) than in children treated with Unna's cream. Conclusion. Emollient Xerodian plus shows high clinical efficacy for curing acute AD and restoration of the skin barrier.
