Abstract:

OBJECTIVE

To analyze surgical and endovascular treatment of splenic artery aneurysms.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

We report variations and results of surgical and endovascular treatment of 12 patients with splenic artery aneurysms.

RESULTS

No postoperative mortality was observed. Complication occurred only in 1 case (damage to the pancreas with subsequent abdominal drainage). Spleen may be preserved regardless the type of reconstruction including splenic artery ligation in patients with proximal or middle-third splenic artery aneurysms. It is associated with good collateral circulation.

CONCLUSION

Endovascular management (stenting or embolization) should be preferred if contraindications are absent. Open surgery is more traumatic but also ensures more surgical possibilities.
