Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a common genetic disease with prevalence near 0.2%. Natural course of disease can lead to onset and progression of heart failure, sudden cardiac death. Historical aspect, modern diagnostic methods (including molecular-genetic approach), medical and surgical treatment are reviewed in the article. Particular attention is paid to perspective diagnostic and curative strategies.
