Aim — to analyze neurophysiological status of patients undergoing simultaneous coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and carotid endarterectomy (CEE) by using of multichannel computed electroencephalography (EEG). Material and methods. 44 patients were enrolled. Concomitant CABG and CEE were performed in 17 patients, CABG alone — in 27 patients without significant stenoses of internal carotid arteries (ICA). ICA stenosis grade was 70—99% in CABG + CEE group. Right ICA lesion was noted in 9 (53%) patients. All patients underwent EEG 3—5 days before and 7—10 days after surgery. Analysis was performed using statistical package Statistica 8 («StatSoft», Tulsa, OK, USA). Results. It was established that both concomitant interventions and isolated CABG were accompanied by diffuse augmentation of θ-rhythm potentials compared with preoperative values as well as decreased power of α1-rhythm potentials in posterior cortical areas in 7—10 days after surgery. There was predominant increase of θ2-rhythm potentials power in right hemisphere in CABG + CEE group. Conclusion. CABG and CEE are followed by θ-rhythm potentials in early postoperative period similar to those after isolated CABG. Computed EEG may be a highly sensitive method for dynamic assessment of neurophysiological status and safety of surgery.
