The MPFF is effective in eliminating venous symptoms in patients with chronic venous disease (CVD).

OBJECTIVE

To evaluate the effect of MPFF on subjective symptoms of CVD after endovenous laser varicose vein surgery.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

A multiple-center open-label randomized controlled trial included 140 patients with CVD after endovenous laser varicose vein surgery with mini-phlebectomy and/or sclerotherapy. Patients were divided into 2 equal groups: the main group — MPFF 1000 mg/day for 2 weeks; the control group — no pharmacotherapy. The study was designed according to the CONSORT standards.

RESULTS

The main group was characterized by more significant relief of venous symptoms and greater reduction in the number of venous symptoms. The main venous symptoms decreased by 24.0 [16.0; 34.0] and 19.6 [10.5; 31.0] points, and the medians of residual sum of symptoms was 4.0 [2.2; 6.7] and 8.8 [4.0; 14.8] points, respectively. Venous symptoms decreased as follows: pain 2.1 [1.0; 4.9] vs 1.7 [0.4; 2.9]; tightness 1.6 [0.0; 3.1] vs 0.9 [0.0; 2.3]; heaviness 3.0 [2.2; 4.3] vs 2.2 [1.5; 3.9]; fatigue 3.9 [2.3; 5.7] vs 2.9 [1.2; 4.1]; feeling of swelling 3.2 [1.1; 4.9] vs 2.5 [0.0; 4.2] points, respectively.

CONCLUSION

MPFF is effective in reducing or eliminating venous symptoms after endovenous laser vein surgery.
