OBJECTIVE

To analyze endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) with wavelengths 1940 and EVLO 1560 nm in complex surgical treatment of patients with varicose veins of the lower extremities.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

A retrospective study was included 140 patients who underwent surgical treatment of varicose veins between 2020 and 2023. All patients were divided into 2 groups: group 1 — 70 patients after EVLA of the great saphenous vein with wavelength 1560; group 2 — 70 patients after EVLA with wavelength 1940 nm. Simultaneous mini-phlebectomy on the lower legs was performed in all patients.

RESULTS

There were no early postoperative complications with necessary additional treatment or hospital-stay. In all patients, total great saphenous vein obliteration persisted throughout the entire follow-up period. Paresthesia occurred in 4 (5.71%) and 3 (4.28%) patients, ecchymosis — in 3 (4.28%) and 2 (2.86%) patients in both groups, respectively. The feeling of a cord on the thigh occurred in 1 patient in each group and regressed after 3 weeks. We found no differences in rehabilitation after EVLA with wavelengths 1560 and 1940 nm.

CONCLUSION

EVLA of the great saphenous vein with wavelengths 1940 and 1560 nm is a highly effective and safe method for correction of venous reflux in patients with varicose veins of the lower extremities.
