Liver cirrhosis is known to be a cause of 70% of the cases of intrahepatic portal hypertension (PH). The most frequent and dangerous complication of this condition is bleeding from esophageal and gastric varices. Many palliative operations extend the lifespan of the patients presenting with portal hypertension up to the time when liver transplantation becomes possible and do not interfere with the implementation of this surgical procedure. The present article describes the observation of a patient with virus-associated liver cirrhosis that she developed within 7 years after splenorenal venous bypass surgery with a good result.
