Abstract:

OBJECTIVE

To evaluate the feasibility of simultaneous autoplastic repair of hernia defects and diastasis recti correction using an original surgical technique in patients with primary linea alba hernias combined with rectus diastasis, compared to isolated autoplastic repair without diastasis correction.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The study included 64 patients with primary linea alba hernias combined with rectus diastasis. The main group consisted of 32 patients who underwent autoplastic repair of the hernia defect with simultaneous diastasis correction using the original surgical technique. The comparison group comprised 32 patients who underwent isolated autoplastic repair without diastasis correction.

RESULTS

A significant difference was observed in the total number of early postoperative complications and hernia recurrences 18 months post-surgery, with a higher incidence in patients who underwent isolated autoplastic repair (χ²=5.2; p=0.02). At 18 months post-surgery, patients who underwent simultaneous hernia repair and diastasis correction demonstrated significantly better combined quality of life outcomes (p< 0.01) compared to those who had isolated autoplastic repair without diastasis correction.

CONCLUSIONS

In patients with primary linea alba hernias and rectus diastasis, simultaneous hernioplasty and diastasis correction using the original surgical technique reduces the incidence of wound-related postoperative complications and hernia recurrences in the long term, while also improving quality of life 18 months post-surgery.
