OBJECTIVE

To assess the psychometric properties of the SF-MPQ-2-RU (Russian language version) for chronic neck pain accompanied by migraine, tension type headache and cervicogenic headache.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The study included 365 patients 18—64 years (mean 40±11 years) with chronic neck pain, including neck pain accompanied by migraine, tension type headache and cervicogenic headache. There were 273 females and 92 males.

RESULTS

No floor and ceiling effects were found. Internal consistency of the SF-MPQ-2-RU was good (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.85). Four-factor structure was found. The factor containing descriptors of migraine showed good internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.85; inter-item correlation coefficient = 0.36). The factor containing descriptors of painful sensations typical for neuropathic pain showed sufficient internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.72; inter-item correlation coefficient = 0.30). High correlation was found between SF-MPQ-2-RU total score and NDI-RU total score (r_S=0.62 at p<0.05), moderate correlation — between SF-MPQ-2-RU total score and NRS total score (r_S=0.50 at p<0.05).

CONCLUSION

In chronic neck pain including pain accompanied by migraine type headache and cervicogenic headache, the SF-MPQ-2-RU shows good psychometric properties and internal consistency. The questionnaire can be used both in clinical trials and daily practice.
