Abstract:

The objective of the review is to study the main factors influencing the achievement of remission in patients with alcohol dependence and alcoholism with concomitant psychological disorders. A comparative analysis of Russian and foreign publications was conducted. It has been established that the achievement of remissions and its persistence are influenced by various factors: premorbid social stability, the time of occurrence of risk factors, childhood psychiatric disorders, hereditary burden, injuries (physical and psychological), the quality of relief of the withdrawal syndrome and its delayed phenomena, affective, neurotic, neurasthenic-like disorders, a combination of alcoholism and mental disorders, concomitant diseases and inadequate treatment, physiological processes of normal aging, active participation of patients in treatment, positive turning points in life and the absence of negative ones, the level of education, involvement in religion and spirituality, the presence of greater social support and friends who do not approve of alcohol consumption, the increase of the meaning of life, and higher self-efficacy. Individual therapeutic programs are needed at different stages of remission, incorporating psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy, both for patients with alcohol dependence and for patients with alcoholism and mental comorbidities.
