Abstract:

OBJECTIVE

To assess perinatal outcomes of combined external-internal podalic version and breech extraction (podalic version) and cesarean section (CS) of the second fetus.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

Perinatal outcomes were assessed in 44 pregnant women with twins, first twin delivered vaginally, second by cesarean section — 24 (54.5%) [Group I] or podalic version — 20 (45.5%) [Group II].

RESULTS

Combined external-internal podalic version and breech extraction does not worsen perinatal outcomes.

CONCLUSION

Combined external-internal podalic version and breech extraction may become the first line surgery if the obstetrician has experience performing such surgeries.
